No experience on Erie here, but I love to fish St. Clair, just upstream. Awesome smallmouth fishery. We've always flipped tubes up against riprap and breakwalls, with white being the hot color. If the fish have moved off of those locations, then we casted cranks out on the flats. Rat-L-Traps have always been my hot lure - chrome and light colors. I'm fond of the Tequila Sunrise pattern.

Good luck!

I will be heading off to lake erie tomorrow night for a day of fishing for smallies on friday. not sure what we will be doing/ flipping/ jigging/ casting but eagerly awaiting a chance to hit one of the reputed best smallie lakes in the world. anyone with experience on this lake? i think we are headed out from the cleveland area. gotta love combining a work trip with a chance to take on a monster bronzeback.
