So ... I was searching through old bookshelf posts to see if a particular author had ever been reviewed, and I see this. I've read three of the books (Monkeywrench, Solitaire and the book of essays Down the River), but not Hayduke Lives.

As compelling as the first?

Have you ever read anything by Doug Peacock, the real-life man on whom the Hayduke character was based, much to Peacock's chagrin? It didn't do their on-and-off-again relationship much good.

Actually, Peacock was the author I was searching for on this forum. Will write more about him later.

I've enjoyed every book I've gotten written by Edward Abbey.

The Monkey Wrench Gang, is probably his best know. A fun read. Hayduke and his friends try to sabotage the industrialization of the west. Lots of action.

Hayduke Lives, is the sequel.

Down The River, is a collection of short stories about rafting the western rivers.

Desert Solitude, is a collection of short stories he wrote as a park ranger out west.
