Funny Beav...I thoght he was messed up too. But I thought he was too easy on the kitty.
Gee, Wally...I dunno....launching your cat across the cabin because it's making noise seems a bit extreme. To each their own, I guess. Just not the way I treat pets.

Just finished this on my Kindle. Overall I am lukewarm on the book. The daily details of living were interesting, but I found his philosophizing and whining about not finding himself tiresome. He seems to be one messed up guy; mistreats his Cat, unsure of his sexuality, his disinterest in 9/11, etc.
Interesting but not a consistently entertaining read.

Ever wonder what it would be like to go solo for a year? Bob did it and wrote a book about it. 100 miles out into the Chilean archipelago of Patagonia.
1st quarterof book is pretty much straight forward journaling in trip report style. Good writing and I followed him along on maps. Middle half of book gets deeper as he delves into self-examination of life and who he is. whole book is in a daily journal-entry type style and an easy read. If you've ever thought how a year alone might impact you...give it a read.
An interesting sidebar...his whole project was linked to him talking a Canadian university into approving this expidition for a doctoral thesis in a study of himself and how Solitude affected him....here's a link to his web page....under the "Solitude Project" link, you can find some maps and pics under the "slideshow".
