After a bunch of searching I finally found a site that gave instructions for mounting in a kayak. I adapted them for installing in a canoe. During the process I did what you recommended and used o-rings to seal the screws. They worked great. All in all it was a two hour job with all of the measuring and shimming required for a solid and even installation.

I do not know where to locate them, but on kayaks we use an o-ring under the head of the screw to seal the screws.

I picked up a set of foot braces for Bell Canoe for my Royalex Rockstar canoe. Unfortunately they came with no instructions for installation. Where in relation to the seat do I mount these? How far forward do they go? What is the best way to seal the screw holes used for mounting? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for the input.
