Got one a few years ago for myself. Then my wife sat in my seat and I had to get another. I don't know about the cost issues some say--a crazy creek chair is 40-45. I paid that for my chairs. The Bench seats  are $60 and you can find them on sale at Hoigards or Midwest usually.

I have never had a problem with the straps loosening. If you did not have a problem before with straps on the Crazy Creek you should not with thuis seat either. It is very adjustable both in height and support. Defintiely a luxury item.

I tried the Crazy creek and they just never were that comfortable to me.

Weight wise about the same as a crazy creek much lighter than a sitbacker.

With all that said you really need to try one before you buy. I tested one out at a Midwest Demo before buying.

I use on similar to a crazy creek seat that piragis makes. I beat stuff pretty good and don't have any problems with things loosening up. I like it cause I can take it off the canoe and use it around the fire too.

Proper posture will likely be a better solution.  I've never been a fan of seatbacks in canoes, too restricting.

I borrowed KF's Prism a few years ago. I had always taken a scrap 7ply plywood board for cleaning fish. It was kind of traditional and it developed a nice tooth over the years. Anyway one day near the end of that trip I stuck in vertically behind the seat. It was a fantastic backrest wedged between the seat and a thwart. 8" wide 2 feet long, no paddling issues. It was great. Comfy. In my tandem I'd lay back once in a while and crack some issues but I really enjoyed the serendipitous aspect of something so simple and arguably useless providing so much pleasure. I didn't trust laying back in the solo as it was new to me at the time. Second last day of the trip my line got caught on the bow's skid plate Once I realized my arms were not long enough to get it out, I had to crawl back to the seat thinking damn, that was really a stupid move in a virtually empty canoe.

They made them of steel to hold up to guys like me...there isn't that much weight difference...

What I'm really not sure I like are those side straps. They really come out on the sides quite a bit and look to be a potential tangle area especially for me with the items I wear on my belt. A definite safety concern.

The sit backer looks nice. I have handled them before at Cabelas or bass pro but I can't deal with the weight. Tubular steel. They should of made the things out of aluminum and jacked the price a bit. I wonder how many sales they are missing from guys like me.

The backrest doesn't look comfortable to me.

a might spendy...and at 2005 prices to boot!  I would also like to know the comfort level.

I like a seat and have always run a crazy creek seat but am thinking of swapping. It always seems to be loosening up.

Has anybody run these? I pulled it out of the Archives.
