...Hmmm... if I learn there is a beer in it for me at 'Copia, I might even give "accurate" coordinates!Jimbo   Cool

Ah hah!!   The secret is revealed!!  I'm bringing a 6-pack!!   Cheesy

A six-pack of Surly Furious earns instant access to any of my maps!

By the way, what dd says IS true... he beat both KF & me to the spot.  It is also true that we secured the info from some kind-hearted campers who have headed to Mexican Hat every year for the past ten.  Nevertheless, it was yet ANOTHER member of our party who beguiled said information from those campers & who also beat the rest of us to the honey hole!

I suspect it might have cost that individual a bottle of Scotch.  Good information comes with a price!

Accurate info is verry expensive... Grin

Yes, Jimbo hit me up with that location already.  Smiley

I am missing 'Copia this year, which is a real shame. I will plan better next year! I am sending emissaries from my travel group to meet with Harlan and maybe some of you guys.

Ben- Yes, we are flying both in and out. Figured we'd spend the extra $ since our trip is so short and the flight restrictions don't start until July 1.

Now THAT'S not right!  I was there before either of these two guys!   Angry

And the tried-and-true technique for discovering this honey hole ... wait for it ... we asked another group of campers on the lake.   Grin

KF,

Taken care of via e-mail already, though I was shooting from the hip (ie. no maps in front of me) at the time.  Will verify specific GPS coordinates when I get back to my Mexican Hat map.

You must be planning to at least fly in since your back in that far for a one week trip. Once you get to Wrist, your portaging should get better. Although your Amber - Nutria portage has some serious mud and the portage out of Mexican hat can have some moments. But it's an awesome route. I'll be coming out at Johnson mid June. And going back in Lund early August.

Hey Mad-Birdman -- I don't have much info to share, but just wanted to wish you well.

I was in WCPP back in '05, and paddled some of the lakes on your route (Haven, Wrist come to mind).  As Kingfisher has indicated, portages are a bit sketchy, as are "established" campsites.  But it's all good!

I recall fishing as something less than sport, as it was almost a matter of putting a lure in the water.  Then again, fishing for us, while fun, was mostly an exercise in obtaining our next meal.

I'm going back in August.  Not sure of my route yet.   I look forward to your travelogue.  If I ever figure out how to imbed a series of photos interspersed with text, I'll do one as well.

Perhaps I'll bump into you at the WCPP/Canadian booth at 'copia next month.

Travelling through that burn area is surreal. I think you will enjoy it. Prepare yourself to look for rock cairns and flagging tape for portage markers and always keep an open mind - you might have to make your own way. Dead standing trees in that area are falling all the time.
Enjoy the trout fishing (and eating) on Adventure. It was outstanding when we stayed there. That was the one lake in the burn that had some live trees and a couple decent campsites.
Wrist has fewer but BIG trout.
If no one told you where to catch the walleyes on Mex Hat send me a PM.

Heading to WCP in mid-June, staying for one week. Route is: Adventure-Haven-Gulch-Jigsaw-Wrist-Amber-Nutria-Mexican Hat

I am aware that we'll be heading through the burn area from Haven to western Wrist, but it sounds like the portage crews gave that area some attention after Kingfisher's group made it through.

Thanks to all who will share any information (and who already have--you know who you are) about portages, good camps, points of interest/picto's, or fishing spots.

I am hoping to post a report here when we return and will keep track of portage conditions for any future database efforts. We are excited for this adventure!
