I kind of like the roar of my stove, it has the same effect on me as the bell on Pavlov's dog. For the car noise why be stuck with motor noises? You could have a recording of the dwarves singing "Hi ho, Hi ho, it's off to work we go" maybe sung by Alvin and the chipmunks! Or maybe if you were feeling cranky, a recording of the T-Rex from Jurassic Park when he was doing that wonderful roar! Instant cure for constipation in the unwary pedestrian. Best Wishes, Rob

I'm thinking the throaty rumble of a 5.0 liter V8 would be nice but probably not very " Green"
Well, I don't think chirping crickets would garner much attention. (And yes, I went to a restaurant this past weekend and got in behind a couple in the parking lot gleefully ignorant of my presence as they casually strolled down the middle of the driving lane.)

Maybe you should invest in one of those after market air horn kits that make your car sound like an 18 wheeler. Wait till you get up close and lay on the horn IF they survive I'll guarantee they'll NEVER walk in the driving lane again. You live in Texas, so they should be grateful you didn't pull out your HawgLeg .44 and fire a few warning shots

I do have to exercise more caution when navigating parking lots ... pedestrians don't hear me coming.
"Part" of the Green Movement, the " culling" of the the part of the population that doesn't have " Spatial Awareness"
Like the 2 ear bud I-Pod people and the walking talking/texting cell phone ones
Seriously though at the auto show here in Detroit, they had a booth for some company that was going to be making after market sound kits for hybrid/electric vehicles that would alert pedestrians to you coming. I'm thinking the throaty rumble of a 5.0 liter V8 would be nice but probably not very " Green"

Watch the # of pedestrian accidents involving the hearing imparied rise proportionatly with these new vehicles.
Fund Sound Fact - Early ATMs were so quiet people would panic, "It's stuck, it's not doing anything!". Mfgs had to install a sound making device to calm people down.

Probably the same reason I don't drive an electric car! How would I know it on?
Don't drive a full electric, but I do have a hybrid.
How do I know its on? I have to check the instrument panel lights. As I begin backing out of the garage, the gasoline engine turns on and then goes silent. I do have to exercise more caution when navigating parking lots ... pedestrians don't hear me coming.

WOW! I can't believe I missed that. Thanks Preacher, I even read all that before. Oh and Preacher, How do I know it's working if I can't hear it? Probably the same reason I don't drive an electric car! How would I know it on? Just kidding, I will look into the Trangia.

As you know from the "white gas" topic that I started, last weekend I bought a new MSR dragonfly stove. And as most of you do, I also comb the Youtube for videos pertaining to my camping gear. Well I stumbled upon a video of a guy named hikinjim with a special after market cap that replaces the roarer plate and makes the stove truely whisper. It turns out that these caps are called "Dragon Tamers" (also my nickname in high school, JK). The guy who sells them only makes a few at a time and sells them on ebay for alot of money. They are hand made so you can understand the price. So..anybody heard of these or better yet have one and can tell us how cool they are?
