I would say the books would read well on a stand-alone basis.

I agree that you don't have to read the books in order to be able to enjoy them but it does offer some insight on the characters. I started with Boundary Waters, found it because of the name, then went back to the beginning of the series and through from there. Looking forward to the new book as I have enjoyed all of his previous work.

While I have read most of the series in sequence, I would say the books would read well on a stand-alone basis. My mother read one that would right in the middle of the series & seemed to really enjoy it.

Here is another link (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links) that provides a video concerning the setting of the new book as well as a hint as to where the storyline goes from here. It sounds really good!

Krueger's newest book, "Northwest Angle," is due out August 31st. It continues the Cork O'Conner series. Here is the link that tells you more about it.

Just finished this one. Not sure if it is my favorite of the series, but I do think it ranks up there. I was somewhat disappointed with the last book and the story line, this one seemed to be more of what I've come to expect and enjoy about this series. Looking forward the next one!

Not more than a minute after I made the above post, I received an e-mail notice from our local public library: "Your request for 'Vermillion Drift' by Wm Kent Krueger is ready for pick-up...." I made that request last fall when the book came out! VERY weird!
I run through periods of time when I am simply a magnet for bizarre stuff happening. Looks like here I go again.
Anyhow, I really look forward to reading this book.
