Hey Westwood, I used the very same strategy while in college.  It's amazing how a little booze and ego can distort common sense!

I played poker in college.  My strategy was to let the other guys get drunk and over bid their hands.  I did better later in the evening.  In law school, we played a lot of 500.  If we had a block of rooms, no telling what kinds of cards games we could have.

After introducing my girlfriend to my parents my dad took me aside and whispered, "Does she play Euchre?" 

Euchre (and it's big brother 500) were part of life growing up.  Except when I visited my grandmother.  Then it was cribbage and canasta.

I learned how to play poker at the family hunting camp as a kid.  Cousins and uncles would play for hours.  During my junior high years, the older men had gone out leaving us alone.  We had a game going and cash on the table.  A couple visitors stopped in and sat themselves down.  I suppose they must have figured some extra money would come in handy at their next bar stop.  We cleaned them out of the $14 they had between the two of them.  And they had the nerve to ask for it back.  Too funny!

Learned how to play Euchre in college.  Our roomies from lower Michigan were big on it.  Great game, much faster than poker.  We played each night after dinner during the "MASH" hour, losers rotating in and out.

I jus wanna play a little penny-ante, drink some beer, tell some lies, laugh a lot.  Ain nothn wrong with some good ol' boys sittin around a table wasting a little time an such, socializn. Maybe lose a buck or two. 

I applaud the members of QJ and the wisdom displayed from steering far and wide from this smooth talker.

Having spent a wee little time with one "Mike P" A.K.A. Puckster (also known under various other names including "Prouboy" depending on locale) it didn't take me long to ascertain a certain mischief was at work.

The smile, the stew (pretty good! up) and the "aw shucks" attitude is designed to lull one into a false sense of confidence all while the pot builds......then its no more Mr Nice guy. Beware! 

Wow, almost 200 views and one "kinda" response for cards. 

I gotta say, I'm surprised at the lackluster response.  Maybe poker is a dying vestige of the past.  Like hunting (and fishing), a generational thing that is no longer in vogue? 

Cards, including poker, was very much a part of my life in high school, college, and beyond. Without cards and basketball, I don't know what I would have done with myself.  I'm sure there were much more character-building hobbies and useful skills I should have spent honing during all those idles hours of youth.  But more likely, I would have ended up in some juvenile detention center!

I enjoy a poker game occasionally but I know I can't stay up all night. In fact the older I get the more I tend to be an early to bed early to rise kind of guy.
