Thanks to everyone for your input.   With the way things are at the moment, I am not holding out much hope for a trip this year, so I will have lots of time to decide on raingear.   What I can hope for is that current worldwide events will finally  call an end to the overuse of the phrase "Gone Viral" on the internet.

After going through a lot of expensive rain gear failures I've finally settled on a decent lightweight waterproof shell.  To me a well designed hood is also important.  I add or subtract base layers as needed.
I agree with Azeala on the importance of the inside material.

I find that the most important feature in a rain jacket is that it have a good fabric liner with lots of small holes in it on the inside. desing of that liner is important. Even with the inside of the outer shell quite moist, you still feel dry because of the liner.  Downside is it does add bulk and weight.

I'm starting to re-think my whole approach to raingear.

So far I've never seen rain gear that at some point doesn't leave you soaking wet from the inside because your perspiring faster than the fabric can vent it.

I'm thinking along the lines of a loose fitting NON-BREATHING item to let the air circulate easily from within versus snugger fitting rain gear.  Undecided

I've got my eye on this item: (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

Pulls on easily over pack or PFD.

Anyone here have a good or bad experience with this material for lightweight rainwear?

I already know it is pricey.

Did a search here on QJ, but nothing came up.
