You need to accept the two cookies offered.

You can actually log in and be recognized w/o accepting cookies but click any link beyond the page you're on and - BINGO - you're a guest again. The forums use cookies to provide member functionality. Without 'em it has no clue who you are and this forum will not let some anonymous "guest" or anyone else post under a member's name.

The fix, w/o compromising worthwhile sounding security already in place, using IE is something like Tools>Internet Options>Privacy>Override>allow cookies from quietjourney.com.

Basically, to take full advantage of privacy options here you need to accept the username and password cookies offered by QJ. I know it's unusual but on this site cookies are served for your benefit and yours alone. Even if your QJ cookies were compromised by some evil behavioral marketing firm or worse, all they'd get is your username and an encrypted password.

I just got this Dell for x-mas. I tried fixing it through the IE security link but no go. Your tip on the privacy tab fixed it. Thanks! Going from win 95 to xp makes takes some getting used to. If I could buy you a beer I would since I have been having this problem from the public library to bass pro.

muchos gracias, amigo.

I did receive a response that said an e-mail had been sent to my e-mail address. BTW I have not checked my e-mail. Please help.

Fried Corn Meal right? I have it. Those are added by hand. I have some others and I intend to get them up in the next two weeks along with almost everything else I have like the PDB.

Thanks db,
I wasn't sure so I did post it under what’s cooking for the time being. I know by seeing what times your logging in you've been quit busy. BTW the upgrade has made viewing quit a bit faster, and the marquies are a nice touch.

I have set my browser to accept cookies for your site as noted in this topic but still can't log on. It lets me log on, tells me I have 1 message but then tells me that this feature is only for registered users. I look up and I'm a guest once again. I go through a router, could this be the problem?

I use a router and don't have that problem. db should be able to sort it out for you though.

SQ - Did you agree with the terms of service by clicking "I Agree" before registering? SQ is not a member. What's your member name?

db, this is a great website, which you already know from my 'habit' of visiting your 'campsite'. My question is this, when you click on 'start a new topic' to begin a thread, can a default search be started by asking the member or guest to type in their topic of discussion first. That way if it appears in a previous thread, it may 1) answer their question or 2) at least give them a sense of where that discussion has gone in the past so they know whether or not it is really a new topic. Plus 3) it will help keeps posts organized topically. Just wondering. 8) 8)

I've already got horns and a tail. Do I really need a pitchfork?   (You need to Login or Register

Actually that's an interesting idea. Organization is a wonderful thing but some people tell me they don't read much past the first few responses since threads tend to disintegrate after a while. Go figure.

I don't write this stuff. One of the admin pages for the board has a button I could click to remove posts older than X # of days. The default is 70. The geeks that do write this stuff would never understand that some things, some concepts, remain timeless. Still, people come and go.

I'm sure I've repeated myself numerous times over the years. -Probably changed my tune a bit as well. If the search police can help someone that's great. Those who have done this BW/Q stuff for a while admire all types of efficiency but some day some idiot w/o the standard preconceived notions will say something stupid and we'll all go: "Hey, why didn't we think of that."

So... don't hold your breath. :-)

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply anything in regards to the horns, tail, and pitchfork. I was simply stating my obsevation that people new to QJ, and I've been guilty myself and will likely continue in my guilt, Seem to ask the question first, without doing a search. Often, to use Trippers example, we get the annual, if not more frequent 'footwear' discussion, or the neverending debate over whether or not to hang the bear pinata. My thought was that by entering the topic and doing a search would eliminate some of that. Whichever, this is a fantastic website and I deeply appreciate the vast amounts of time and resources you give us. You're da boss! ;) ;)

I have been a registered QJ user for over a year and have never had any problems with my account... until the last few days.  My account won't stay logged on.

When I log on it says that I have instant messages, but when I try to read them it tells me that this feature is only for registered users and I see that I am now listed as a Guest.  I run into the same problem when trying to use other QJ functions.

I know that my computer is supposed to download two cookies, but I can only find one of them, even while it says that I am logged on.  I set my browser to always allow cookies from QJ, but this didn't solve the problem.

I use Windows XP and Internet Explorer 6.0.  Additionally, my computer is running Spybot, Ad-Aware, and Norton AntiVirus if that makes any difference.

Have other people had this problem, and is there an easy fix that I haven't tried yet?  Help!

Thanks,
Piggyn

Normally that is a cookie problem on the browser's end. In this case it was on my end and I expect a lot of people had or soon would have had that same problem.

The good news is with Piggyn's help I was able to find and correct it. (I'm pretty sure anyway.)

Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for bringing it to my attention.
