It's wilderness enough.  When I was there in 1998, my group and I went for 6 days without seeing another human being outside of our group.  We even started a running joke: "If you see any mushroom clouds, bright flashes on the horizon, or if you hear any loud explosions, that means there are no more fishing limits."   ;D
