Too, there is a difference between "powdered" milk and "instant" milk. Carnation, for instance, is an instant milk. I'm not sure which Sanalac is. I know that the dry milk at my local Co Op is powdered milk. As far as I can tell the difference between the two is effort in mixing. Instant mixes quickly. Powdered takes beating. An egg beater is used at home. On the trail, a whisk or fork will work with a lot of effort. Now that mixing is to make it "drinkable". The quality of powdered milk is very close to real milk while the instant ... is not. :-) I don't know if the hard mixing is needed if using it in recipes. I just use instant for recipies because it is cheap, easily gotten, and seems to work well. |
