I was just about to give up the search for this item when I ran into it again this evening.  The "mini pitas" are produced by   (You need to Login or Register under the product name Pitettes Pita Bread.  They are about 2 inches in diameter and are produced in either white or whole wheat.

The bag of 30 or so I bought tonight at a local (chain) grocery store was $1.99.  I think the first time I noticed them was as WalMart.

Hope this helps out on future trips.

UPDATE:

I took this item on a backpacking trip during the end of July (25th - 29th).  The mini-pita's were very tasty (with chicken salad), but you'll have to pack them in something to protect them.  (I didn't.)  They will tend to crumble a bit during the "transport" process if left in the original packaging.  But keep in mind that this was a backpacking trip and the amount of abuse the "pitas" received in a couple of days would likely be equivalent to that received in over a week of canoe/portage "abuse."
