Title: Re: On to Alaska! Post by db on Jul 2nd, 2004 at 7:00am
I think I did a similar cruise. When I went, location scouts had gone before and all our stops were planned well in advance so there were no options for me to choose from. Because of that, I'm not sure where this stuff is but for what it's worth:
I didn't do it but I'm told and heard the train ride from Skagway (I think - probably) is pretty cool. I've no clue which but the city where the 5 or however many glaciers meet the sea has helicopter tours. They take you out, drop you off and come get you later. They even give you boots to keep your toseys warm in the meantime. It's probably not cheap but two of our stops were in incredibly awesome places above the glaciers. That was the day I'll always remember as the day of the majestic views. Glacier Bay(?) may be the most boring spot if that's on the itinerary. (Although the area before it will look very familiar.) I was always happiest off the boat. Even the final long bus ride to I forget what airport was interesting. It's a reeeally pretty place and as much as I hate cruises, I gotta say that particular cruise was worthwhile. |
