Old_Salt,

Speaking of radios, I've actually been thinking about whether or not I will "turn on" my radio at the Chub Pond.  Generally I enjoy listening to the "voice of the great Canadian Northwest" on CBC as I fix the evening meal.  Nowhere else do I ever hear such a unique assortment of odd-duck programming & music with a pure northern flavor.  Also, there's always the remote chance I might learn something about the weather on those rare occasions when the announcer says something other than "sun & cloud expected today".  THAT "forecast" covers all contingencies but it does so without telling the listener much of anything.  Every once in awhile, however, they WILL mention something about a monster blow coming through (after a "period of sun & cloud").  It certainly helped me prepare for some 70mph winds about 3 years ago!

The real issue for me concerns park/backwoods ethics and respect for the other campers.  I WILL have my radio with me AND playing it when I am on the more remote lakes where there are NO other campers about.  However, chances are I won't even turn it on at the Chub Pond... unless I'm comfortable that other B.U.G.B.I.T. members are generally "OK with that".  Many folks go to the woods to get away from radios & such.  Sometimes I am very much one of those folks!

In any case, I don't think I can pick up the Chicago station. It'll be the CBC or nothing... in English, French, & Ojibwe, depending upon the time of day.
