Title: Re: How to apply your QJ decals Post by db on Sep 7th, 2005 at 8:15pm
I put mine on this afternoon. Before I did, I wrote the people that produced them:
"...what you would suggest as the best way to apply...?" "Good Afternoon David, What we usually use is denatured alcohol to clean the surface, this makes sure any dirt and grim or even oil residue is completely gone and a credit card will work to apply the decal mattering the size, if it is small it should work out for you. Try putting down the decal dry, this will avoid the bubbles all together..." So, I cleaned the surface with denatured and used a credit card to apply the labels. No air bubbles no problems. The hardest thing was first pealing off the backing. I found it worked best to pull 180 degrees directly back (slowly, carefully) on a flat surface to keep the logo attached to the front covering. The URL was most difficult to peal the backing from but once I rubbed it on the canoe it was much easier to peal the front off using the same technique. It looks just like the name and pinstripes that came on my canoe and the thickness is about the same too. The original stuff is still hanging on after 16 years, although there are few nicks - none of which were memorable. |
