This is what I use also, we had a supermarket (Albertsons) that use to carry it but they removed it from the shelves a few years ago and like you REI is the only place I've found it.
I tested it on the family, I guess you could call it a blind test. I filled a milk container with it and put it back in the refrigerator nobody could tell the difference, my better half used it in her coffee and the kids on cereal. Great product!
