Title: Jimboree #2
Post by Jimbo on Apr 19th, 2006 at 12:31pm
Well, I mentioned it the other day on the General Forum in a sort of incidental fashion.  I suppose it is more appropriate to formally announce Jimboree #2 over here in the "Rendezvous" forum.  Without the ballyhoo & hype of last year's Bushwhackers Jamboree & its more "impromptu" shadow, Jimboree, we have planned another get-together in the Bush.

This year's trip will involve several QJ'ers, either travelling together or crossing paths between June 29 & July 8 in Argo-Darky-Brent-Suzanette region of the Park.  Taking some liberties here to divulge identities of participants (ie. suckers), our parties consist of Yellowbird, Kingfisher, Old Salt (our Chef) & his paddling partner "Pepper", QPassage, Matunik & his paddling partner The Fireman, & myself.  En route, we hope to visit with Arkansasman on Day One, somewhere in the vicinity of the Roland Chain.

Jimboree #2 will take place on a soon-to-be-christened & appropriately decorated  Flamingo Island #2.  It is located in eastern Brent Lake (possible locations = JM, LD, LC, or LW on the PCD map).  The date will LIKELY be Sunday, July 2nd, 2006.  As I mentioned over on the General Forum, "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free."  We welcome such folks at Jimboree - or anybody else, for that matter - year after year.  With luck, we hope to run into Intrepid Camper & her party over there, too.  However, if ANY OTHER QJ'ers are in the general vicinity, DO DROP IN!

Old_Salt will be ready to feed the multitudes....

We shouldn't be too hard to find.  Look for the island with the large, dark clouds overhead, a downpour in between, and a soft pink glow somewhere down by the water.  If you smell fish frying & hear wild fish tales flying, you're at the right place....

Another hint: if you see eagles out-dueling the gulls for the dinner scraps, you're in the right neighborhood. 8) 8)

If you see a flock of pinks floating on the water, don't dare fish there, it's our reef (refrigerator).  :-X :-X

Echoing our fearless ''leader'', EVERYONE IS WELCOME!!, and we're good for a free meal, and a pot of coffee. Would especially enjoy meeting any fellow inukshuks! Come one, come all... you'll hear stories you won't get on QJ.

We may even divulge the ending of Sturgeon 7's (those who were around a year or so ago will remember him) unfinished trip report, prior to its eventual posting.

Is a gathering of pink flamingos considered a flock, or is it a gaggle?

Would it look like this?

I'll definitely be near Flamingo Island in early July.  Leaving from PP on June 28th, so far alone, but wouldn't be against having company along on my permit.  Any ladies out there want to go camping?  IC

WARNING!! This is NOT Flamingocide!!  These birds are merely napping.

They are well-known for making like possums right up until your fingers get close to their beaks....

Just a note that may be of interest. 5 of the top 8 QJ posters (notice I did not call them IMposters) will be in Jimbo's gig, led by the leading QJ poster himself. There is also a rumor that another top poster may join us for a portion of our quiet journey. So, we will not lack for conversation and story-telling. Truth and getting a word in edgewise may be another issue. ;D ;D ;D

Old_Salt -

Speaking of prodigious feats of verbosity... congratulations are in order for your passing the "millenial" posting mark on QJ!

You know, the real challenge for QJer's will be to decide - upon our collective return on July 8th - WHICH "trip report" they should believe.

BTW, I'm considering posting my Trip Report sometime next week....

Jimbo,
To finally break the 400 barrier...

I will attest that you are the first voyager I have ever known with precognition... that innate ability to post your trip reports prior to the event...   :o :o

You indeed have a plethora of abilities and are a profound Pontificator extraordinaire...   ???

We await your precognitive trip report with anticipatory jitters...  ;)

Humbly yours...

No doubt his trip report will show the the spicy duo known as salt and pepper, will have the most and biggest fish! ;) ;)

BTW Arkman, only a few more posts will put you in the top 15 QJ posters.  :D :D

A prestigous group to belong to... most assuredly! ;D  However, I must humbly say that just being a member of the Inukshuk Family is an honor ;D
And to associate, communicate, and prevaricate* with such a distinguished group is truly a priviledge 8)

A wise guy/man once said, "Truth is in the eye of the beholder, though it be a near-sighted cyclops."

By the way, QPassage tells me tales/rumors of a tribe of cycloptic folk, pre-dating the picto-producing Ojibwe, who once inhabited a small village on a remote pond just north of Conmee.  He hopes to persuade me to investigate the ruins of said tribe during our passage through the area, hoping to find proof-positive artifacts.  As I am a bit more interested in fishing, I'm not sure we will see eye-to-eye on this venture.

So, I suspect I'll put him ashore in that vicinity for a day (or three), ensuring he has a functioning compass & at least an energy bar or something for his bushwhack.

I was implying nothing regarding my esteemed voyaguers with my reference to the truth of trip reports. I may have been referring to myself.  ;D ;D

Some long-time QJers may recall a thread I started in the distant past regarding bushwacking to remote ponds that held only monster fish. I nearly got IM'ed to death from those who wanted me to divulge my secrets to them. To most, I sent vague replys. BTW, doing a search to find this ancient thread will produce no results as it has been removed from QJ. But, it was fun!!  ;D ;D ;D

Long-time QJers may recall a particular poster from the land of the midnight sun who felt that we somehow 'owed' him the honor of divulging every known secret and detail of the Q. We ALL fed his insatiable appetite, filling in the gaps of our collective knowledge with well-contrived, details.  ;D ;D

As for YB's reference to 'slackers'... I haven't seen any slackers in OUR party. ;) ;) ;)

There shalt be none in mine either... :o 8)  If anyone slacks off on my trip, I 'll give myself what for!!!  ???

In my opinion slackers are soon to be packers.  So I would be very surprised to see any such slacking.  Unless of course it's the total fish count at the end of the day. ::)  Then I guess I might be considered a slacker.
As to the rumors of a tribe of cycloptic folk, pre-dating the picto-producing Ojibwe, who once inhabited a small village on a remote pond just north of Conmee.  I fear the great gods of the Cree may shadow this venture into a haunting tribal warfare, which could be devastating to the eyes in Conmee.  However, either way I seek and foresee many fortunes in this great vast land of opportunity.  By the way.  I'll be the one casting the magic bait, often noted as casting spells up on fish in shallow depths of water to only be lurerd toward one certain individual.  I sure as heck may not know how to fish fairly, but I'll make great fortunes at my magic bait stand in Quetico.   ;D

Hey IC,

I suspect you should be showing up pretty soon in the Pre-Cog version.  The "vision" mostly occurs nocturnally & isn't quite clear at this exact moment.  It may depend on how well I sleep tonight OR how well I digest what I ate for Supper.  This evening's venison holds high potential for yielding interesting results.

Please don't allow the knowledge that MY diet can change the nature of YOUR Quetico future be too disconcerting to you...  unless, of course, I start chowing down on hot chili peppers.  That's bad news for everybody's future.

Hey, btw, I AM getting some inklings about certain surprise guests appearing soon.

WOW!  I mentioned to Jimbo that my party of inexperienced Quetico newbies will be camping along your route in and thought of trying to hook up however, I'm now reconsidering this in light of the number of top QJ posters.   :-/

I mean, this sounds intimidating.  Maybe we'll just lie low when we see QP and Jimbo in the lead canoe cruising by and listen to all the conversations from shore.  ;D

May the Magic of the Bait lure the big fish into Jimbo's and qp's canoe.
Thank You to db and the qj for allowing a great group of guys/gals to become friends and put together a trip as this.  Ya'll are the best!

All I can say is that you all better not let Bo do the map readiing 8-) who knows where you will end up ;D Bo got in late lastnite to drop off his truck and be picked up by 2 other fellow paddlers and he had to call for directions ::) But they all got off early this morning so they should be well on there way. Have a good trip wish I could come along :'(

Hey, Satch!

If I see the whites of your eyes at Scott's Marina before 4pm tomorrow afternoon, you're in!  As you could probably tell from your visitors last night, we take in your tired, your cold, your straggling struggling huddled masses, etc. & so on, and accept all God's chillun' at Jimboree.

Thank you very much for taking care of my team last night!  I am much obliged to you.

Intrepid Camper is getting an earlier start on Jimboree than I anticipated.  She will like be the first one to arrive in the Brent/Suzanette area.  Of course, the REST of the Jimboreers will be lucky to get there at all.  Old Salt, of all people, has come up with "new routing" &, somehow, I'm certain that QPassage will suggest a few interesting deviations from that!!

The fun starts this afternoon, provided that QP does better at finding MY house than he did in finding yours.

Thanks, again, for your help!

Satchmoa -

I am pleased to report that QP, Matunik, & the Fireman have made it to my house.

Under extreme duress, QP has confessed the REAL reason he arrived SO late & confused at your place.  It seems he chose to read the old map that Stumpy gave him versus the road atlas in the truck.  So, not surprisingly, Stumpy is our villain, yet again.

Apparently, QP felt it was his duty to "meet up" with Stumpy PRIOR to our trip in order to make a "peace offering", thus ensuring safe passage for our party through Quetico.  Stumpy "accepted" the boat (& has not yet discovered the leaks), so we feel pretty good about the deal.  On the other hand, Stumpy's map turned out to be about as good as QP's boatl.

Countdown is OVER!  We head north in the morning.

Back in a couple weeks, folks!

I guess I'll see you in Brigaloon some night next week...

P.s. Hey, 10:30pm and I actually have the whole of QJ to myself. No one else logged on. Am I missing some big party or something? How many of you are going to Jimboree #2?!  :-?

Folks,

Be sure to tune in Saturday, July 8th at 12:30 pm on KSMB for a live interview with the returning Jimboreers.  This trip, fully sponsored by the Little Bay de Noc tackled company of Happy Rock Michigan, is flying a film crew into Zup's resort, LLC. The interview will be conducted by a legendary Fishing Facts magazine writer for the exclusive on the "magic" bait revelation.

I have a feeling there won't be much "sleeping" going on at Jimboree.

All the guys at my place have been up since around 4am... and for no good reason.  We won't see Old Salt, Kingfisher, & Pepper until 8am or so.

Yellowbird is posting to QJ at around 3am this morning.  Yikes!

This is going to be an early bird crowd for sure!

My thanks to all those MANY good QJ'ers who sent up routing, fishing, & camping info in preparation for this trip over the past several weeks & months.

Death to spammers!!!

Jimbo's posting at 5:00am Yikes!

I hope you have a wonderful trip and that all return safe and refreshed.  We all look forward to hearing the tales and then finding out what really happened. ;)

I think we should schedule a council fire session and allow people to intreact with the players from this trip.  Just an idea.

Hello All...
I have news... All of the Jimboreer's, made it safely to Bottle Portage via the tow to start their journey!  On the other hand I was not able to continue with them because of a stress fracture I received in my right foot on the way into the BWCA last Sunday the 25th...  Lake Agnes was as far as I made it (Campsite 1804/29) and that was all!!  I did manage to get up to Bottle Portage Thursday morning to let them know I was not going to be able to go with them and then I went back to Agnes, broke camp, made it back to the truck, a shower at VNorth, a bite to eat and then an 1100 mile drive back to Arkansas to see a doctor...
