I have also used a bedowin (sp?) oven and this also works.  It is very light weight and funcional.  I bought mine from Indiana Camp supplies but don't know if they are still in business of if it is availabe.[/quote]

Hi, I have a quick question and I'm not picking on your spelling. I would like to clear up the type of oven you have and I'd like to get some additional info on it.  Now my understanding is that what is referred to as a bedouin oven is usully made with rock and partially buried underground, I've had goat from a bedouin oven and it does a fantastic job.  The other oven that I have run across is the bedourie oven used in the Queensland area of Austraila which may be  modification of the typical Aussie billie and that is a multi-use utensil which has a pot, a frying pan and other attachments.  The cooking parts are usually steel (spun?, stamped?) and the frying pan part has a removable handle and can either be used as a cover or can set into the top of the pot.  As an oven its used like a dutch oven with the frying pan set into the top of the pot and then partially buried in the coals and the coals heaped inot the frying pan/top.  Which type do you have and if you are happy with the steel pot type how does it compare to the traditional dutch oven.  I would think that the steel assembly might have hot and cold spots while the mass of the cast iron dutch oven would be more consistent in heat distribution.  Perhaps I am just over complicating the whole process. The bedourie is much lighter than a dutch oven and includes multi-use components which would be an advantage: can't even play frisbee with a dutch oven cover.
