Title: Council Fire problems
Post by Ranger on Oct 19th, 2006 at 12:37am
I have trouble logging onto the council fire chat from my computer.  >:(  When I select the "council fire" text, it takes me to the log-in page. But after about one second - before I can get on - it directs me to a Dell error page: "could not find that site..."

Anyone know how to fix this?

I believe I had this problem once and was instructed to update my Java server...I think...well I did, and then it worked for me.  Hope this helps.

Ranger -

Yep.  I was on when you tried to enter.  There was a quick entry that you were there and "poof" you were gone (twice that I noticed).

If it helps at all, I'm currently using jdk 1.5.0_06 (java).  The latest release seems to be _09.

Since I read this thread, I've been checking out the Council Fire........no one ever seems to be on there....
is there a special time??? Am I doing something wrong?
Is it the fishy smell?

After 10pm on Fridays & Saturdays seems to be the bewitching hour, according to my own limited research.  Then, again, it's been awhile since my son didn't fight me for "access" at that hour, so I cannot say my observation is still valid, for sure.

I tried the download K provided - no dice. I have no idea why it does this, but this computer's about to find itself out in a snowdrift!  >:(   >:(   >:(

Last night I got in after a few tries. Tonight, not a chance. Any other thoughts?

Here is the error that I receive, some Dell/Google error page:

Sorry, we couldn't find   (You need to Login or Register.

The host hasn't been serving that page for a while. They don't understand why either. All it did is show the count of people chatting. I'll remove it as it's useless anyway. I don't know if that will help. It should have no effect.

Ummm that's going to screw someone...

Try this page instead:

You need to be patient as JAVA starts/loads or whatever it does.

DOH!  I'm afraid if I change the name of the direct link from the main page of the forum to "chat.html", then that's just going to get spammed somehow too. I think I now understand why they don't allow access to the count any longer.

Long story w/o a happy ending I can imagine. It is what it is. Going directly to:
(You need to Login or Register
may help. Best I can do. Maybe those who do chat can help you. I could change it to a more reliable format but then a record can be kept and I'm sure no one wants that - least of all me.

Ranger,

I don't know if this will help, however when I had my issues with Java I ran into this same thing for awhile, seeing the count but not the chat itself. A friend then coached me through the installation step by step, finding that not closing all other programs when attempting to install the Java on my own was my issue. After that it worked for me, but then I've been tempted to through the PC in the snow drift myself. Good one!

You are probably way ahead of me on how to install programs.  Just my 2 cents.
