Title: Various works by Sigurd Olson
Post by DentonDoc on Jan 17th, 2007 at 5:06pm
This is not a recommendation of a single book, but rather any of the collected works of Sigurd F. Olson.  If you are looking for material that speaks more to your soul than to your intellect (not to mean that his writings are void of intellect), then I can make a blanket recommendation.

The following comes from the dust cover of "Listening Point" and is a consistent representation of anything I've read from Olson:

"This book has prose that is close to poetry.  The discerning eye of the naturalist is in every page.  The color, depth, and sounds of the North Country are here in vivid form.  Sigurd Olson is our modern Muir and Thoreau.  He writes with depth and feeling.  This book of quiet adventure is hard to put down." (Justice William O. Douglas)

I can find no argument with this endorsement.

Regretably, Olson is no longer with us, but his works from the 1950's and 60's are timeless.
