I thought everyone would like to know that my nedw guide book A Paddlers Guide to Queitco and Beyond will be out in a few weeks. Let me know what you think. I mentioned the forum a few times in the book.

Can you provide some info about the book?  How many Q routes are in there, what other (Beyond) routes?  How much detail?  I have a few of your other books and one detail I hope you are including in this one is total trip length in distance travelled rather than days, as a 5 day trip for you might be 3-8 days depending on the group.

Here's the list fo routes for the book. It's organized in days, not distance - sorry. But I count an average day to be 12-20 kilomters, depending in the portages, size of lakes and meander of the river. Each route has a detailed map (made by a professional cartographger)and info. though.

I recently purchased your book and read a significant portion of it immediately upon recept.   Primarily, I was scanning to read your write up on lakes I've been through.  Good job!  I am very glad your first experience of the Quetico was not your only one.

I imagine writing a book about canoe routes is fairly difficult.  How much detail you should add must be a balance point between general description and all-encompassing tome.  You did a great job on the areas I know and love, primarily the southern Quet.

My regular crew and I look forward to trying some of the routes and alternate wilderness areas you described.

The White Otter Lake write up was good - certainly the lake itself is worth the section, and I know you've covered the Turtle river in another book.

Still, I think a route or 2 beyond WO lake would have been good.

I was reading thru one of your reports in the book (Hunter's Island, maybe) and you described an embedded tick or 2, and you got a little freaky...

What kind of tick was it?

I've had plenty of ticks, but I never did see the one that gave me lymes disease a few years ago (not in the canoe country - NW Wisconsin).   I haven't heard anything definitive about wood ticks carrying lymes - so I've no reason to believe it wasn't a deer tick. Supposedly they need to be embedded for a couple days before the lymes passes into you.

There's a general risk of infection from any embedded tick byte, but if its a wood tick and it hasn't been there too long, shouldn't be that big of a deal.

sorry, I did not purchace the book, I read most of it for free at Borders  ::), an excellent book to give people an idea of trips to make,  the trips are ones Joe Average can make rather than something only somebody writing for a magazine would do. Good job.
