The Beaten Path Nordic Trails (cross country ski club) here on the North side of Quetico have been in existence for about 14 years. Along with a classic ski tour in Jan. (Sawmill Lake Classic) and The Chocolate Cup Challenge in Feb. (ski race) we have our flag ship event in March: The Cross Quetico Lakes Tour is a true ski tour and not a race. Although it's very challenging event, it is very social and skiing together as a group is encouraged. It routes skiers across the un-packed lakes and portages of Quetico Park. In the past we have 2 choices to choose from, a 35km. and a 45km. Both routes start at Nym Lake but the 35km. route takes the racer portages through Gillnet and the 45km. trail takes you to Batchewaung over to the Jump Lake Portage. The groups rendezvous on Pickerel Lake and finish the last 20km. together. This year we are adding a 3rd route starting on our Club trails that connect to Nym Lake. It will challenge even the most seasoned skier. We are excited, to say the least about this year's event. New to this year is an optional 55km. route that starts skiers from The Tourist Bureau through a stretch of The Beaten Path Nordic Trails onto Nym Lake. We now offer 3 choices: 35km. - 45km. - or 55km. of challenging routes that unite on Pickerel Lake and finish the last 20km. together. Also new for this year is a free Sunday breakfast compliments of The Friends of Quetico Park As always our Club trails are open free to use all weekend by participants and their friends and families. Please try out our great trail system that we are so proud of.
