I can't help with recommendations since I've never been down that trail but one of my favorite places to research areas I've neve been in is   (You need to Login or Register.  They have excellent maps and descriptions as well as dividing the infomation by type of travel: hiking, mountain biking, or canoeing. I've used them for a couple of years now and while some areas are still sketchy (like my home area) they are quickly filling in.
