Title: Kaministiquia R.  & Dog Lake
Post by CG9603 on May 29th, 2007 at 1:57pm
Has anyone ever paddled up and over the Height of Land between the Q and Thunder Bay, Ontario, following the old fur trader route of Lac Des Mille Lacs - Lac de Milieu - Height of Land - Dog River - Dog Lake ?

Where would I go to locate resources regarding conditions, or what to watch out for, or locations of private lands (I don't want to tresspass)?  I know where the provincial parks are.

For starters I suggest you get a hold of a copy of "Open Spaces" by Jim Dale Vickery and read the chapter "Meaning and Misery on the Kam-Dog".  It's tough going.

I think it would be tough also...probably lots of pulling canoe over rocks and low water.
I live on the Kam..but down from the Fort..water is low.
Sounds like a fun thing to do it it is doable.

Debbie

Could u post if u do this ?

I know there's supposed to be some pretty wicked white water on the Dog river. Some where I have a video tape of some guys in creek boats bouncing off cliff sides while dragging their paddle blades on the walls.  :-?
I'm sure it was made in the mid to late 90's.  ::)
They sure looked like they were having fun.
But as an experieced white water guy there was no way I would ever try it.
Not my cup tea. [smiley=thumbdown.gif]

There's some ref here.
