But I do take a few cameras and other stuff that I like to keep from freezing - usually in both a fanny pack and hung off of my neck - both under my parka. If you don't have a lot of fresh stuff to carry, a few small packs along for the ride under your outerwear may do the trick. In camp they can be stored in extra (!) clothing or in the bag.
