Our second trip was similar to the first.  At one point I paddled over a sting ray in the shallows, it was about 2 1/2 feet across the wings.  When it took off in a big swirl of water it startled me so much I let out a little squeak  ;D  We had another great supper and when I set my plate down on the sand it quickly filled up with big Palmetto cockroaches (they are like big flat water bugs and about 2 inches in length, harmless).  We joked that we could make a meal of them, along with Prickly Pear cactus fruits and salty Purslane which were also growing wild on the beach.
Looking at the map we paddle about 10 miles to this spot.  It takes us about 5 hours, stopping for lunch on the way.  Found out these "old" ladies are each 77 years young; again they paddled me into the ground (water).   :-[
