Title: The Lure of the Labrador Wild Post by The_Beaver on Jan 23rd, 2009 at 9:49pm
The Lure of the Labrador Wild by Dillon Wallace.
In late spring of 1903 Dillon Wallace, Leonidas Hubbard, and George Elson set off to explore the unmapped regions of the Lake Michikamau region of the interior of Labrador. I won't spoil it for you, but let's just say... things don't exactly go according to plan. The book became a bestseller in 1905. I believe Jimbo did a book report on it that year for his 3rd grade English class. The Beaver |

Got a C- on it, too... mainly because the ignorant old biddy was expecting a cute story about the exploits a large black dog, lost in the wilderness. In my version, the starving survivors of this adventure EAT the danged dog & use its fur to keep their ears warm. Not quite what she was expecting, I guess.

There was also some scuttlebutt about that book report becoming the foundation for Jimbo's story "Cache River Passage".

Kidding aside, it's a good book. I suggest eating something before reading.
Enjoy. The Beaver |
