I like to change lures frequently when I'm fishing in the QP.  

Problem: Try as I might, I have a hard time keeping my lures organized when I'm in the canoe.  I know I should return them each time to the tackle box, but I'm basically lazy, so the lures end up on the bottom of the canoe, stuck in the wood trim of the boat, or worse, stuck in my shoelaces...

This year I'm trying a new approach: a length of pipe insulation sliced on one side lengthwise and then pushed over the side of the canoe...see attached photo.  

I'm excited..this system seems easy and convenient, lightweight, and portable (can be moved wherever you are in the canoe).  What other ways do all of you keep your lures "under control" in the boat, other than religiously returning them to your tackle box?

Looks great - until they end up in your leg?   ::)  Might want to put it on the thwart in front of you maybe?  I just see a bloody disaster waiting to happen there with either your leg or another fish.  With clipped barbs it might not be as worse as I imagine.  I like how you think though Mike.

Ever try   (You need to Login or Register?  They won't keep the bottom of your canoe uncluttered, but the clutter doesn't get snagged on anything.

I have used the treble hook bonnets for a few years now, highly recommended, either loose in canoe, or in tackle box/bag to keep lures from tangling up.
I also use the foam, but Bungee Bob a piece to a thwart.
Barbs or No barbs, I don't want those treble hooks ANYWHERE close to me ;)

  Cabelas has this item, might be just the ticket if your a frequent lure changer. Lures hang vertical and are easy to see and get at.

Geez, I was soooo proud of my little low-tech invention, I was hoping for a standing ovation!!  ;D

But you all had good suggestions as usual.  Thanks.  I'll try the bungee bob-on-a-thwart idea, and the treble hook bonnets as well.

A wookie?  I use twist ties on the crank baits on the tackle box....

Try this, don't know what happened the first time :-/
Same ease of selection as foam, but a little more secure.
I'm thinking you could use some peel and stick Velcro to anchor the box between your feet on floor of canoe, maybe back under the seat slightly?
Still accessible, but you can lock it shut if your paddling or the water gets rough. Flambeau  # WZ-11-9819

S_T -- I like it....I'll check it out at Cabella's.  I could velcro it too.  I have a soft-bag system with 5 boxes, so if I do this I'll have to rethink my tackle box...but that's not a bad thing either.  

We'll see.

Related note: I drove past an estate sale, stopped, and bought a few pretty old lures...one in its original box, for a few bucks.  Such a deal.  I wish I had my dad's old lures...and boxes.

IF your primarily a stick bait guy? , you might consider this option.
I use the soft sided satchel that BWJ offeered some years ago. Its easily stow-able, and holds way more tackle than anyone needs ;)
This is similar, except you have the option of adding pockets, and it doesn't have a shoulder strap.

I use to use the old kelty fannypack that was the diaperbag...when that got tired move on the the Mad river twartbag....kind on nice as it has backpack sholulder straps that tuck out of the way.....accepts the flat plastic cases from the soft tackle box that I have never used-gift....the twart bag fits better into the winter rig(sled) now all i have to do is flip the hard boxes depending on the fishing gig and trip loop.....

I picked up one of those granite gear original stowaway seat packs a few years ago, just ended up hanging it from the thwart in front of me. It is 18*9*4.5, and can easily hold a couple Plano 3700 boxes with room to spare. I like it because it is quick to go from the pack to clipping it in the boat when you need it, and just as quick to put away if desired when traveling.
