Jimbo made a comment about the difference between the Q's and WC's eco systems. I'd like to hear more. I was up on Keeper just north of WC on a fly-in, and have read some Canoestories posts about WC.
Seems no Red or White pines. Slightly more arid area than Q. So the underbrush isn't as thick. Yes/No??

WCPP is a very interesting transition area, its has a bit of everything but is guided by its influence from the prairies.  So a little more arid than Q - yes, I'd agree with that.
WCP and surrounding area has the highest incidence of fire starts due to lightning that anywhere else in Ontario - or so I've read.

We do have some red pines but they are few.  Underbrush inot as thick - again in general i would agree. Thick underbrush is usually associated with a deeper more productive soil. In WCP that condition aligns closely with major water systems.  Deeper soils found in the park away from the major water systems are usually sand deposits. A good example of that is the "enchanted forest " north of Wanda Lake.

I may have. Its a big sand flat with lichen on sand, game trails through the lichen down to the sand and a very open jack pine forest. I'll have a look when I get back to the office.

worth-wild : what is the fire management program for WCPP....do you have I.A. hand crews, helitack, airtankers..etc... :question. From what I've read so far in other posts, there are private landholdings within the park boundaries :question..do you have management ignitions or allow natural (lightning) fires to grow unchecked and kinda steer the fire to where you want it to go? Do you jump on and take supression tactics to manmade (campfires)...and do Canadian fire crews still get steak and liquid dinners? So is the park in the "Canadian Shield"?

Encompasses -a little north of the Bloodvien, Red Lake is on the east southeast side, and Manitoba on west...or do I have this wrong? Very kool Wally! I think understand about the 2010 cabin thing ....does this mean that the fishing cabins will be out of commission for good for the fly in folks? Will they be tore down or left for time to work on them? Curious.
