Title: Tragedy or missed opportunity? Post by Yellowbird on Jun 2nd, 2009 at 2:06pm

Last week in the Quetico, this huge dorsal fin appeared on the surface and began circling us. It disappeared and then a canoe from another group in close proximity, suddenly upset. We heard screams and then all was quiet. We trolled back through the scene amongst the floatsam, thinking the bloody water would send the trout into a feeding frenzy, but no such luck. Kingfisher and I continue to have flashbacks each night. What could we have done differently? Both of us are now in agreement that vertical jigging of red & white spoons would have yielded much better success than the continued trolling of our Shadraps across the area. -YB |

Missed opportunity. I would have went the jigging spoons myself although given the cloudy, rainy day, gold might have been a better choice.

TWO thoughts :o
You need a BIGGER boat, and those 1/4 stick "lures" you light and drop overboard might of been a good choice ;D |

I would have immediately pulled into the nearest shoreline and affixed a gigantic treble hook onto the rear of the canoe, then attached all the rope I had in my possession to the bow. I then would have sent my partner out to "fish the area some more" while volunteering to stand on shore and hold the other end of the rope to "pull him in" in case the beast attacked again.
It is my belief that almost any leviathan will be tempted by a large sucker... |

Missed Opportunity. Should've waited in the area for some more fresh chum to arrive.
