Yep....hear ya here. Been struck before, lucky I was soaking wet. Seen many a tree blow down when on trail, mostly on portages though. Weather is nothing to mess with, especially on trail. I always look for those hazard trees when setting up that aluminium poled shelter on that mylar ground blanket! :o. I suppose that is the same reason that I ponder the placement of the canoe on land in relation to hazards and always tie the feather lite vessel to something that is secure....tree, rock, etc. ;)
