We enjoyed the Listening Point tour, probably a bit more than I expected. It was very low-key, you were able to just wander around and touch things and take photos wherever you liked. Time to ponder and be quiet. It was led (in our case) by a young community college student who had heard about Sig from her grandfather and obviously had a lot of respect for him and for the place. There was just a small group of us, and we had enough time to enjoy the location, the day itself was ideal (weather, etc.). My biggest regret was that it had been years since I had read Listening Point so some of the references weren't as meaningful to me as if I had read it more recently.
The cabin is very simple, and is just as he left it. He didn't live there, ever. He only went there for meditation and inspiration. I wanted to make a pot of coffee and stay for the rest of the day. Still, I was a bit amazed when our guide encouraged me to sit in his chair by the fireplace. You could feel his spirit in the cabin. :) I would recommend the tour for any who enjoy Sig Olson's writings. |
