Title: Who makes BWCA Latrines - Firegrates?  Want to buy one.
Post by gijikiki on Jul 7th, 2009 at 9:20pm
I am sure this will get some comments, but can someone point me in the direction on where to get (legally) one of those brown BWCA latrines and possibly a firegrate?  I tried google and can't seem to figure out who makes them or where to get one.  I saw a stack of them on the portage between Bald Eagle and Turtle Lake about 10 years ago, I guess I should have "borrowed" one then...

Thanks,

Gijikiki

I bet the Forest Service could point you in the right direction.

The Superior National Forest administers the BWCA.  Their headquarters is in Duluth.  Phone: 218-626-4300.  Ask for engineering or recreation.  If Barb Soderberg is still working, ask for her.  She's the public service team leader.

Would the backyard then have 75 people per day driving /walking past too?  Would you have to go 200 yards into the woods to find firewood?  Will he cut his trees down to 3 foot stumps and erode the root systems?  Maybe scatter little peices of colored plastic food wrappers all over?  May as well go as authentic BWCA as possible.   ;)

Nah, just own some land in Wisconsin and was putting a deer shack on it.  Though I might make it feel a little more like home (BWCA).

I hadn't thought of that.   :-[

Maybe I will go with the BWCA from the 80's.  I could skip most of the things you mentioned but I would still have to peel all the birch bark off the trees around the shack ::).

Dont forget the pieces of broken para cord and rope in the trees! I suppose that might happen in time with the deer success ;)

I think I'd want a "Little Shack Out Back" in those cold Wisconsin woods ;)

Cabelas sells a Fire Service type grate, not cheap but looks very well built. Might want too cement ANY nice firegrate in, seems like thieves will steal just about anything for scrap nowadays ;D

I have even thought about the same thing....BUT....BUGS!
so I was thinking it would be nice inside the outhouse.
I think you would be happier on those rainny snowy
mornings to have dry paper in the house...lol! I'll try add a pic
of my out house... took a couple of evenings in my back yard
and just tacked it together. I took it apart and hauled it flat
to deercamp. Set it on a 4x4 frame, in a couple of hours we
had a little slice of heaven in the big woods....

thats 5 4x8sheats of 7/16osb, 16-1x2's, 4-2x4's8'
and 3-4x4's for the base....
