Title: Wenonah Seneca Post by BrownTrout01 on Aug 10th, 2009 at 1:05am
I was talking with an outfitter that I had used in the past about renting canoe(s) for 3 people for a late Sept trip this year. The outfitter thought a 3 person canoe like the Wenonah Seneca would be best, one reason cited is that "it can be windy in Sept". I would agree that 3 people paddling 1 canoe would probably be easier to make headway with into the wind, and on wide portage trails.
Anyone have any experience with this boat? How are the seating stations for leg room? I would imagine it is a bit of a reach to hit the water with a paddle from the center seat? Would we most likely have to 'take turns' when fishing? |

I recommend it. I did a three man trip in the Seneca in June. We liked it a lot, although we felt ridiculously huge out there, both in length and width. High stability, but somewhat slower to maneuver.
Plenty of leg room if you don't have to stow a bag behind the middle paddler's seat. All three of us are about 6', 190, so we rotated seat positions without concern for weight distribution. Stern seat was best for fishing. All three fished at the same time. Reach from middle was longer, but still comfortable. Stern seat was too narrow to fit a SitBacker chair, but it worked well enough upside down. Three men paddling can generate excellent speed and save energy, but only if you're synchronized. I sometimes get annoyed sitting in the bow while the other two guys are happily paddling willy nilly. When I'm in the stern, I encourage the middle guy to keep time with the bow paddler, then we start gliding smoothly. |

Thanks for the tips. I read a couple of the other threads which had some good ideas also. Wenohah makes some great boats, hard to tell looking at a picture though.
Planning on bringing one sitbacker and 2 crazy creek chairs, hopefully they will fit. |
