Title: Abyss Boots
Post by mastertangler on Mar 5th, 2010 at 2:56pm
I have done a search on the abyss boots after reading Mad Mats suggesting and recommending of them. When I seen Old Salts and DD's liking of them as well I ordered a pair. Good price at extreme outfitters. While I love my Chota Mukluks they seem a bit slick on wet steep surfaces.

I am heading to Isle Royale this summer ( at least that's the plan) and a few of the portages are tough switchbacks about a mile up and over and the thought of doing them in the rain in chotas was unsettling and hence the Abyss purchase.

My question to some of you that own them is what about really cold water? Lake Superior is really cold, like take your breath away cold. I will research different socks and such but it's nice to get first hand experience. Thanks!

I am looking at the NRS boundary sock with hydro cuff. Anybody have any experience with these?

Ditto.  Hope to buy at 'Copia, depending on reviews here.
