My thanks to Mad Mat for advocating the abyss boots, I think I'm going to like them. They seem like they will do well on slick surfaces which is why I chose them. The other reason it seems like they can run through the bog without pulling off. That was always a concern with the Chota Muckluks. I still Luv my chotas but the only thing worse than becoming a permanent addition to the landscape would be losing a boot, OH THE HORROR!!

Never having wet booted it (intentionally that is ;D) before the thought of cold wet feet was not especially appealing. I picked up a pair of NRS boundary socks. Haven't put them to the test yet and the jury will be out yet for several years ( things have to hold up well before I will recommend them)  but I have an initial positive response for several reasons. First off they're fairly comfy. I also like the hydro cuff at the top of the sock. Much more comfortable than I envisioned yet grippy enough to keep them from sliding down. One of the biggest pluses though was something I had not thought of previously. I am average height and build and these socks come to just below my knee. The neophrene material would act exactly like a "gator" of sorts and provide excellent protection on rough portages, bushwacks, bogwalks etc. Maybe not so much a help in the "Q" but in a less traveled place like WCPP they might be quite a bonus. I would be interested to see how the material would hold up under duress.
