One of the things that was mentioned at this past Copia was the idea of having a Fall QJ meal as a way for those who can to meet, swap stories, go over maps, etc. This would be somewhere in the Twin Cities Metro area. Jimbo & Snowdog who both live in the TC have agreed to find a suitable restaurant, with a private room and no time limit. So, this poll is to gauge interest to see how many would participate, so they can find a place with appropriate capacity.

I'd be more likely to go if there was a speaker for a part of the evening -- I can think of a slew of topics -- and the Cities has lots of experts on a number of canoe country topics.  

I'd be willing to offer up some topic ideas and associated speakers for consideration to Jimbo and Snowdog, and even contact the speakers if there's interest in this idea, if that would be helpful. (I'm also in the Twin Cities.)

The Twin Cities are more convenient for me than Madison.  It would be nice if our room was a little more quiet.  I am not being critical of this past Copia, just suggesting an improvement.

The Cities I try to avoid... But for this I'm in. Would be fun to compare notes from the canoe season just past. October though I'll be in the Phillipines the first three weeks.

I like prouboy's idea of finding a speaker on a topic of interest to QJ. I'm looking forward to seeing what we can come up with...

I just found out that Midwest Mountaineering has a Fall Outdoor Adventure Expo, a free event, scheduled November 19-21. Any interest in planning a meal to coincide with this event? They always have a good list of speakers & topics (similar to Copia), so we might be able to piggy-back. ??

That would conflict with MN deer season. Hard time to travel for me and probably others also.

Sorry. Here you guys are trying to get something done and I'm jokin around. I guess I'm just grumpy about probably not being able to attend canoecopia for the foreseeable future because of work and now this dinner get together sounds great too!

OS, I know the Nov 19th-21st is deer season, but dont give up on that.  Shoot for a late afternoon evening function and hte deer hunters would have to give up less of their time unless they are traveling.  
I think it is an awesome idea.  If you wait until later you get into Thanksgiving, Xmas parties and work/family events.  

Anyone else think it is a good idea on the 20th maybe?  

Where will this take place?  Southern MN or northern MN?? or are you making plans for canoecopia?

One of the ideas suggested was to have it at a Twin Cities restaurant somewhere on the north side. Some consideration for a motel/ hotel with a meeting room where one or more QJers could do a presentation of interest to most.

Unfortunately, the planning has not progressed...

So, it appears that it will not happen this year, perhaps in 2011. If you would like to help plan such an event next year, please PM me.

For now, we'll look to our annual Copia gatherings...

OK folks, it looks like the idea that may be gaining some 'traction', pun intended, is to have a QJ rendevous in January, 2011. We are thinking of a Saturday evening, at a nice restaurant, at a location TBD. We would also try to find a suitable basecamp motel for before/after gatherings.

We will be putting up a poll shortly to determine what you would like to do. We want a location favorable to those of you living in northern Minnesota and Wisconsin.
