He tripped backwards over a rock, while collecting firewood behind our campsite on Glenn.  Just getting in and out of the canoe were a real challenge.  He made a cane out of a piece of beaver wood, and we wrapped his ankle up good, and he hobbled his way across the remaining 12 portages to get to the truck.  He's had surgery to repair his ankle since returning.
