Short answer is no. I've spent alot of time fishing with mine solo usually lightly loaded. A 10 mph crosswind will give you fits. The SRQ17 is really too wide to paddle from the middle unless you heel it over but check with the dog about doing that. With the light load you're going to have, there is going to be alot of canoe exposed to the wind no matter how she's trimmed. Still, depending on your dog's behavior the bigger canoe may be your better alternative.
