After a good bit of research, it seems you have to purchase a suction cup type transducer if you use a standard depth finder.  That being the case, you might as well get the Hummingbird 230, which has all the equipment you need for portability and uses AA batteries, which should make it lighter than any other option.  
Anyone out there have one of these and can comment?
