If your on a long trip where weight is a concern I tend to simplify things. That is, I can eat the same thing for an extended time. I find the wide mouth Nalgene canteens make exceptionally good food containers. Air tight and practically indestructible they also lend themselves to dispensing food due to their flexibility. Plus they pack nicely. I think all around they are tops plus come in a variety of sizes.
