Sounds like an old broken leaf spring-wish I was closer. Brake Supply in NE Mpls might be a source for parts (leaf spring, shackles, center bolt, and the the like if necessary) when they get home if he is from that neck of the woods. Been there done that! :-/ Placing a shipping timber between axle and trailer frame and securing (tying in) the timber in place will get them off the highway, and maybe even home. Hope this helps. Like I said before I wish I was closer to help.....Jacking up the trailer will make room for timber, jack to trailer frame rather than to axle...it will take the pressure of the remaining spring and make room for timber. Good luck ;) Now I see in Madison...parts in mpls. will not help. :'(
