Title: Last minute, brief Fall trip Post by tremolo on Oct 19th, 2010 at 1:53am
Daughter and I are going to do a late Oct quick trip over MEA weekend. She wants something "easy" and I want to avoid wind issues. West side. Open to suggestions. Plan to leave mpls early thurs, take care of what we didnt get to take care of in the cities, and put in early Fri morning. Exit Sunday. Hoping sky is clear for almost full moon. All input, advice appreciated for fall tripping.

Maybe Moose River up to Agnes? That's easy and Agnes is a decent place to hang out for a couple of days. And if the weather is good (meaning no wind), you could do a day trip on Saturday up to LLC and check out Warrior Hill and the awesome pictos.
Another choice might be Mudro up to Horse Lake. The first campsite on Horse across from the portage where you come in is full of "domesticated" animals that your daughter might find entertaining. I'd never seen woodchucks at a campsite before that one! The first portage out of Mudro can be a tough up and down, but otherwise the route is pretty easy. |

I like Carp Lake for a quick trip. Get a tow to Birch in the morning and you can be at the far end of Carp by afternoon, just one easy portage. From there you can explore Emerald and Sheridan among other lakes. ;)

Thanks. Didn't consider these before. Will check out maps tomorrow when I have a break from work.

Looks like a wonderful mother daughter fall trip in combination with a blessing of extremely beautifully balmy weather and the right food groups. [smiley=thumbup.gif]

Welcome to QJ, tremolo! There aren't many of "us females" here! ;D
I enjoyed your trip report, too. |

Spartan II--I used to be "wink" on this site, but never posted. Switched to my bwca.com moniker for consistency.

Nice report. The right amount of detail. Some reports are just too much IMO. left, right, left, right, I walked the portage trail, etc. I like the way you mixed some fresh food in with your freeze dried. Not too complicated, but sure adds a lot to the meals.
Thanks for sharing, Jim |

Thanks Toothfairy. It was a great trip
JJSolo-- Yeah, writing a TR is a challenge. What to omit? What to spotlight? Thanks for the comment. |
