I only recently found out about the Tundraline.  While researching it on-line, I'm finding that it may be out of manufacture already??  Anybody know more about this?  Seems like a good piece of equipment at a competative price what with Cliff and the McGuffeys behind it, but why might it go out of production after only 2 years?

Is this the Eureka! product, or something else?

If Eureka! then it's all about market placement, shelf space, press releases.  The same as automobile mfgs, get your 2011 at the 2010 price!  2010 models on sale now!  What's the difference?  Well, one ends in '1' and the other ends in '0'.

If an independant product, maybe they got sued out of business by Eureka! or bad management.

Some mfgs are pretty brutal in their practices.  GoreTex will do their best to ensure that eVent products aren't available in the same store.  While a big retailler like REI can get both, I understand MEC up here in Canada doesn't have that kind of leverage.  I can't buy eVent products at MEC.  I understand it's superior to GoreTex, but GoreTex had the market sooner and the clout to close doors on eVent.

??????  I just googled "tundraline tent" and clicked on the first item in the list which was the Eureka site below - I clicked the "buy now" button, and didn't get any indication that they were out of stock ??

I just clicked on the site, and see that the Tundraline is 12 lbs. Why would anyone want to carry a tent that heavy? The Timberline is 7 lbs 13 oz. I have used Timberlines for many years and they are excellent for canoe camping.

The Tundraline was something another company discontinued and Cliff Jacobson help Eureka ressurect (Blew that spelling?) if I recall that correctly. Cliff is more of a river explorer where they don't worry so much about wieght, so this tent would be awesome there. Martin Kehoe (I think I spelled that right) has one and says besides the wieght it's a great tent. That I don't think is a quote and is what I got from what he said. I think it would be a great tent for two guys in rough weather conditions. You can see it briefly in his Minjim Route video. For our use it's hard to compete with the Timberline and especially the other options. Although I'm temped to try one someday.

My Eureka timberlite 3 finally gave out after 17 years and I replaced it with the Tundraline. I put it in a compression bag and reduced its packed size but it still tops the scales at over 13 lbs. It also has a large footprint.

That being said it is still a fantastic tent, for 2 to 4 people. I am 6 feet one inch and slept crossways when sharing with another paddler. Lots of room for 3 and 4 if you had to. I like the design and plan on looking into the Exped Aeries for solo trips.
