Title: Dipsey's or Snap Weights? Post by moonman on Dec 1st, 2010 at 2:37pm
Hi Guys,
Wondering what you use to take your lures down. Most of my buddies here in central Ontario use snap weights. I've used dipsey's as well but like snap weights better - what are your preferences? Moonman. |

The main advantage IMO of using snap weights is the ability to add weight several feet up the line (very sneaky eh). I like snap weights when trolling for walleyes but I think they are far easier to use when under power via outboard and fishing a large "flat" that is a steady depth.
I'm in love with these trolling weights which I have suggested before here on QJ. (You need to Login or Register Yes I know they are a bit pricey but when you factor in the ball bearing swivel and the fish attracting appeal of the weight itself it's not to bad especially if you don't lose the blasted thing. I know I've already been here but it bears repeating............what's cool is the presentation of one fish following another. I hadn't realized just how effective that can be until I started salt water fishing where it is a standard application. I have also used divers/planers with a modest amount of luck. Might come in handy during late July/ August. I try not to show up then. Maybe I'm just a woos but the fishin sure seems easier in June and early July (as in; tie a big crankbait on and paddle around........yea baby! ) . |

Snap weights when I use anything. I seldom use extra weights anymore because my experience has shown they are seldom necessary. I mostly run deep diver shad baits 25' down or so. Lakers will come up from the depths to hit it. ;)

MY snap weight use is primarily in July and even August. Do well for lakers in August with snap weights and flutter spoons (mooselocks etc). Still, you gotta know the spots as well.
