When I bought my first Ugly stick , I though it was a step up.  I liked it so much that I got three more Ugly sticks.  Now I find out that I have been deceiving myself.  I suppose that I'm not suppose to enjoy Morgan David wine either.  Plus, Zebco actually makes some good reels.  I, of course, have one of their cheap models, but it works well.

You know Westwood your right. Probably for the money and especially for canoe trips ugly sticks are actually a pretty smart choice. You really don't have to worry about breaking them that's for sure and they catch fish just fine. A bit heavier than I like and I'm not crazy about how they load for casting but I wouldn't hesitate to use one if that's what I had and with only a minor attitude adjustment I bet I would be happy enough.

And your double right on Zebco making some good products. Their line of better quality closed faced reels are probably the best on the market.

I stand corrected.
