I've always tied a bowline knot around the bow handle, and secured the coiled rope with a BDB around the same handle. Repeat for the stern. One tug and the line is free in hand, and the BDB stays in place for re-storing.

This has worked for me, but if serious whitewater were on the agenda, then having the painter closer to the waterline is ideal. Interesting product - looks easy enough to do... just have to bring yourself to drill two holes in your boat.  :o
