Title: Powdered peanut butter Post by mastertangler on Feb 14th, 2011 at 6:20pm
Well it seems that nctry Ben has been holding out on us. I have had the pleasure of getting to know Ben a bit via PM.
He sent me this link and I sure am going to try this stuff out. Looks very interesting. Powdered peanut butter and powdered peanut butter with chocolate as well as peanut oil. Kudos to Ben. (You need to Login or Register I wonder how the chocolate variety would be added to a cup of coffee? Could be interesting.... |

Oooh thanks! This is one of the single heaviest items in my food bag.
Crap, only shipping via UPS. $15 for the product. $15 for the shipping. $30 for the brokerage fees UPS always presents once the product crosses the border. I could justify spending $30 for $15 worth of pb. Why does anyone use UPS for international shipping? Never had a good experience. Every time they ransom my property to me in the guise of broker fees. Too bad, I would have liked to try this. Looks like it knocks 2/3 of the weight off. |

Hey, come on... I only got the stuff Friday... ;D I like it a lot. And they claim anyway 85% less Calories and Fat. Should have gotten one thing with chocolate to try but didn't. Maybe Mastertangler will share some with me in the WCPP in August... ;) |

Maybe we can bring some through the border and get it to ya. I'll be coming through in June. |

Thans Ben! If you're passing through Toronto I'd try to arrange to do the trade.
I do have a query for Bell on USPS vs. UPS. Not sure why anyone uses UPS for international. Just my UPS rant. USPS never has hidden charges. ;) |

Maybe I should of offered powdered peanut butter to Preacher instead of the keys to unlock a wee bit of fishdom heaven. I probably would of got a nibble on that ;).

I'm intrigued! However it sounds like it could either be fantastic or absolutely horrible. How close is this stuff to the taste and consistency of real peanutbutter? Honest opinion, Ben, side by side, how does this stuff stack up? |

Uh, I feel like I'm being put on the spot here... ;D But I really think it's a great find for me. The consistancy is very good. You do want to eat it soon after mixing... and cleaning up after promply as it drys somewhat fast. But very water soluble. Taste is real good... but, not a burnt taste... more of a "can tell it was heated up" taste like in a dehydrating proccess. Is it perfect? I think it's pretty close. I just kick myself for not getting at least one jar with the chocolate. Oh, and a good protien source. Ya got to try it. |

Were you going to be at Canoecopia? I should bring some there... Maybe they'd send me some to give samples with. ;) |

Yes Ben, you will get a sample in August. I have placed the order already. I know a good thing when I see it ( I started dropping hints 2 weeks after meeting my wife that she was "it" for me....she thought I was "nuts". ;D........of course it took almost a year and every nickel I had to wine and dine her 8-) )........speaking of whining and dining!! E-Gads, it's Valentines day!
I am trying to figure out how best to employ it. I am thinking of adding it to the Mountain house granola w/blueberries and milk that I usually have for lunch. That might up the calorie count some. I will give it a whirl and report back. I'm also going to try it in some coffee.....the nutella added to coffee wasn't bad at all. |

I'm thinking PB sandwich. ;D As far as calories... I think it's supposed to be low in that. |

I made a request to Bell Plantation to see if they'd give me some for people to try at copia. I feel it's worth a try...

Well that begs the question then is it worth carrying lighter weight and all. Traditional peanut butter has 190 calories in 2 tbl. vs the powdered at 45 calories. You may have more bang for the buck carrying traditional stuff unless you have high cholesterol as the powdered is much reduced in fat content.
That being said I'm still looking forward to mixing it with my granola. It will firm the consistency up and add a little variety. I'll keep an optimistic attitude about it. |

I eat the stuff every day. I'm on a low fat diet and it tastes like real peanut butter, not the way most low fat ones do.
I also put it in my chocolate protein powder and it tastes like drinking a peanut butter cup. Great in oatmeal also. One of the area Hy Vee's here in North Iowa has it in the organic section. I do not like their peanut / chocolate combo. |

Being the crotchety old complainer I am, I sent them an email about the trouble of UPS on international shipments. They referred me to a Canadian office in BC! Sweet.
